Cell Phones - Do You Really Need To Have The Best Cell Phone?

Lately there’s been such a huge surge in the advancements in cell phone technology that it’s starting to make people wonder if there is any point in buying the best phone on the market at the time?

The Speed At Which We Move

It’s not just the cell phone industry that seems to be moving too fast for people to keep up with, but basically consumer electronics in general. I mean videos are a thing of the past, which I think is absolutely ridiculous. DVD’s are the worst invention to come out of recent history. Every time I go to put a DVD into my DVD player, half way into the movie I find out the DVD is scratched and I have to put up with constant skipping. Eventually I just end up turning it off!

So it makes you wonder, is there any need to buy the most up to date phone on the market? I mean potentially at the same time you’re purchasing that phone, another one is being released with even better features than the one you’re getting. So what are the biggest factors for you when buying a new cell phone? For me there are a few things that I have come to enjoy and are musts for the phone I plan to buy.

A Good Camera

Now I’m a pretty big skeptic when it comes to…basically anything, but when the first digital camera was attached to a cell phone I had to say that it was a pretty damn good invention. So as a result, the phone I have must always have a great camera. I just find it so handy to be able to take photos whenever you want. You never know when a great moment is going to arise that needs capturing. So a good camera is a must.

Cell phones coming out now are pushing the limits when it comes to quality in the camera department. Some are coming out with 3.2 megapixel camera, which is soon going to become standard. I mean why would you even need to buy a separate camera, when you have one just as good on your phone?

How Tough Is Your Phone?

One thing that I think is absolutely crap, is when you buy a phone and the whole thing is made out of plastic! I mean, if you drop it once, it’s all over! You’ll have to go down to the shopping center and get yourself a new plastic phone, which you’re likely to break again.

There are however some phone companies that steer away from these cheap piece of crap plastic phones and use stronger materials like graphite. My phone now is made out of graphite and I have dropped it a few times, but it seems to withstand my constant clumsiness!

Consumer Electronics - The Cell Phone Industry Is Going Crazy

Let me ask you a quick question. How many people do you know that DON’T own a cell phone? If you’re like me then that answer would probably have been a big fat zero. But why has the cell phone industry become so incredibly dominant in recent history?

A Customer’s Need?

How many people do you know, have a cell phone but could definitely do without one? I know several, yet all of them are so sure they need a cell phone that they’re willing to bet their lives on it! When did this small consumer product start to become as much of us as our own clothes?

Well when you think about it, the two are fairly similar. If you ask someone why they would prefer to wear a designer label shirt as opposed to one that is not, nine times out of ten they will reply with, “because that’s what everybody else is wearing”. It’s the same with our cell phones, we choose to have one because all of our friends have them and in order to keep up the trend, they themselves must acquire one.

It’s funny, when you think about it that people these days, don’t buy a cell phone because of its ability to allow us to keep in contact with one another, but more because of the way it makes you look. That’s why cell phone companies spend billions of dollars a year in advertising costs to try and make their models seem as cool and fashionable as possible. They know that the only way to get people to buy their phones is to make them the coolest phone on the planet and if you don’t have this one, you’re friends won’t respect you as much!

The Text Message

When cell phones were first introduced, the only feature they had was the ability to make phone calls. Then text messaging came in with an explosion. It would seem that people would prefer to spend 10 minutes writing down a statement, rather than just calling the person and telling them in 2. Crazy thinking but not really when you think about it.

You see, we are a shy society that find it difficult to converse with people in person. Even over the phone can be hard. That’s exactly the reason why text messaging succeeded. It allows people to communicate indirectly. You can say pretty much anything you want over a text message conversation and not feel embarrassed about it, pretty smart when you think about it.

Cell Phone Dating: The Newest Way to Search For a Date

For those of you who are still coming to grips with online dating, it’s too late. Mobile dating is the newest wave in online socializing.

Millions of singles have begun searching for a date using their cell phone thanks to new location-based mobile dating services that lets users connect on-the-spot with people they pick out. These are like instant versions of Internet dating, but with even more features. They have additional capabilities that online dating services can’t offer, like enabling you to search for a date based on your location and allow you to update that location as you move around.

People who use the service like the immediacy of location-based mobile dating. Instead of a stream of back and forth e-mail messages, potential dates can chat via text messaging in “real-time” making the experience even more satisfying for some. For those who still like to flirt from afar, Internet dating may remain their preferred method to online socializing and dating.

With location-based mobile dating, potential dates could be at a club, at a coffee house, at work in the building next to yours- wherever you want to search. You can find who is in the area and view their profile. The information is sent to your mobile phone, without revealing your identity, exact location or mobile phone number. That is up to the individual to reveal when the time is right.

“When we first stated the service two years ago, almost all of our users were 18-24 years old,” said Bob Bentz, Director of Marketing at Advanced Telecom Services which provides the cell phone dating product MatchlinkMobile. “Now we are seeing the median age moving closer to 30 years old as more adults become regular text message users.”

While each of the mobile dating services operates a little differently, they are all quite simple to use. Usually, all you need to subscribe is an email address and a picture of yourself. Once you have successfully subscribed, you create a profile that tells others about who you are and what you are looking for in a partner (as you would if you were involved with online dating). You then sit back and wait for the mobile dating service to find suitable matches. As matches are found, you are notified via a text message.

From there, you begin correspondence using all of the mobile device’s text messaging features. Once you send a text message, replies to your messages appear in your Inbox. Sending photos or live videos of yourself is a simple matter of using the capabilities that are built right into your device such as digital cameras.

Perhaps the biggest benefit of mobile phone dating over online dating is the convenience. You can date anytime that you feel like. All you have to do is grab your mobile phone, login and start flirting with your matches until your fingers get tired! It does not matter where you are as long as you are connected to your mobile service.

How To Choose Between A Prepaid Or Regular Cell phone For Personal Or Business Use

The cell phone as we know it is changing our lives every day. Almost all small and big businesses require for their employees to own or have a cell phone to get in contact with other people as well as the need for cell phones to have a regular work day. This is why knowing about cell phones will pay off when you go to find one and get a plan. Locating your best cell phone plan is what you need to look for it will be the most important choice you make when getting a cell phone.

Think about whether you want a prepaid phone or a regular plan with your cell phone. When you have a prepaid phone you can only use the minutes you will have on your phone. Most of these phone plans come with a free phone. The only thing that is con about it is that you won’t be able to use your phone when it runs out of minutes until you buy more. This is why buying a cell phone and getting a contract with a company is the easiest way to go. If you spend 40 to 50$ a month on minutes I am pretty sure you can get a fairly good plan from ATT for that much or just less per month. There are all kinds of plans out there that are way better than getting a prepaid phone. You won’t have to worry about the minutes going out while you’re talking.

Many cell phone companies have a family or share plan. When you have a plan like this you can have I think up to four or five people on the plan something like that. You will only be billed a certain amount each month and good plans start at like $60 for a share plan. This is easier than getting an individual plan for each kid in the family.

Cell phone plans are better than prepaid because you wont ever run out of minutes and you also will have rollover sometime like if you take a trip outside the united states and you don’t use those 1000 minutes you have for the month and you are gone for 2 months you will have 2000 minutes when you come back because you haven’t used your phone.

I think of prepaid phones only as an emergency to get in contact with someone. I think they should just be used when traveling.

The statements stated above are true and a plan is going to be better I price and for talking. You won’t have to worry about losing minutes when talking on the phone and won’t have to worry about dropped calls either.

The Fine Art of Downloading Ringtones To A Cell Phone

You may not be aware of it, but there is a certain skill involved in downloading ringtones to a cell phone. Here are some of the basics that you need to understand and master if you are serious about building up a nice collection of ringtones that will be available to you whenever you like.

One of the first things to remember is that there is no value in downloading ringtones to a cell phone that are not compatible with your make and model of cell phone. It should come as no surprise that there are different types of files that work on different types of phones. After all, look at the many different types of electronic documents that most of us work with each day. All are not created alike. So even if you come across a ringtone that really is a great one, don’t waste time and energy saving it on the off chance that someday you will have a phone that will accept the ringtone. There is plenty of time later on to find compatible file types when that day comes along.

Make sure that the ringtones you pick are right for you. What is the point of loading the first movement of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony if you don’t care for classical music? Go with something that is more in line with your personality, while still remaining within the perimeters of good taste, of course. You want your choice of cell phone downloads to say something positive about you, not be a point of evidence that your relatives can use to have you committed.

One misconception a lot of people have is that you have to download the ringtone directly to your phone. While you can, that is not necessarily the case. A number of cell phones are manufactured so that you can connect them to your computer hard drive via a USB cable and upload ringtones directly from your hard drive. This is actually a much better system, for two reasons.

First, chances are you can save quite a few more ringtones in a folder on your hard drive than you ever could on your cell phone. Second, the ringtones can be archived on a CDR, if you want to keep your collection safe and free from any type of hardware failure. After all, both computers and cell phones have been known to stop functioning. If you really want to be a serious collector of ringtones, then you want to keep your collection in a safe place. Download to your hard drive, then archive on disk.

While the mechanics of downloading ringtones to a cell phone are very simplistic, the sense of finesse behind what you choose and where you store it make ringtone downloading an art form in and of itself. By keeping a couple of simple ideas in mind, you can become a true artist of the ringtone download genre.

Looking For The Right VOIP Phone

The magical VOIP phone can be a novel and stimulating skill for many people, but for others it can be a menacing and baffling undertaking. A VOIP phone might present an arrangement of challenges and issues that you may not be ready to face without learning a whole lot more about what is involved with Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP).

There are easy ways to learn about this VOIP phone system technology, however. You can check out some information on the internet, for example, or talk to a local phone company customer service representative and ask them all of your questions.

Finding a VOIP vendor in your area can be easy, especially now that VOIP phone system technology has an overwhelming amount of influence in the markets. People are getting tired of their conventional phone services and wish to switch to something that makes calling more inexpensive and more convenient.

Whether or not VOIP phone system technology is the right answer to this question is still a little up in the air, but more and more people are willing to try VOIP systems now more than ever.

VOIP has a variety of names. The most commonly referenced name for VOIP is Voice Over Internet Protocol. It is also known by IP Telephony, Internet telephony, Broadband telephony, Broadband phone, and the popular Voice-over-Broadband.

Essentially, all of those names refer to the same basis element of VOIP; it involves the routing of voice conversations over the internet or through any other possible IP-based network capability.

Companies that supply VOIP to customers are called providers. A provider uses a protocol, which is a term that refers to the set of standards that govern communications, to grant their customers the ability to get through on their network. VOIP systems, thus, enable customers the ability to work through networks like the internet to place all of their phone calls.

The cash savings come by way of utilizing a single network to make all of the calls. Many providers have the networks previously in place due to their ordinary telephone services, so hooking up VOIP costs them little to no extra capital.

VOIP phone systems, for many providers, are almost like free money in the bank. They create the possibility of free calling from one VOIP services user to another, enabling long distance calling to become a lot less of a hassle for the average consumer.

VOIP will change the way we talk to one another, once again, if it hasn’t already. The emphasis on VOIP that will really drive a path through the market of telephony will be the cost to the consumer and to the companies involved.

Companies like , CISCO VOIP and others hook up VOIP telephony through their existing technology and are enabled an entirely new brand of customer base for little to no cost to them. The customers experience the savings, too, often paying little for a phone plan that enables them to essentially make endless amounts of calls over the VOIP systems.

Voice over IP phone will be the way of the future for many households, especially those that would benefit from having greater long distance telephone possibilities at their fingertips. The world is changing and VOIP phone technology is fast becoming a leader in bringing people closer together without the cost of traditional long-distance telephone systems.

What Is A Reverse Phone Directory?

Today, the Internet offers a vast array of tools to help people who intend to retrieve information with the use of a telephone number. This is one of the many reasons why the reverse phone directory exists. This tool, which is in a form of service, provides users a host of information by merely keying in a telephone number .

One might ask, ’how does reverse phone directory work’? Imagine oneself walking along the beach and after reaching a certain point, stop and look back, and find the whole track from where you started walking by following the prints of your footsteps in the sand. This simple example shows how reverse phone directory works. Data that have been transferred are collected and contained in specific database for the sole use of the reverse directory system. The data collected and contained in the said database include details such as name, address, and other numbers relevant a particular phone number.

A reverse phone directory is helpful in numerous ways. The reverse phone directory can be used in any of the cases listed below.

- Getting a caller’s name. A directory easily can help when one needs to find out the source of an unrecognized number, may it be from a prank caller, an unrecognized number that appeared on your phone bill or your cellular phone’s registered calls. In the case of prank callers, you can find out who owns the line, where they they live, and who to ask for regarding the annoying caller. The information gathered from a reverse phone look up may also be passed on to the police for further assistance in handling repetitive, harassing calls.

- Acquiring an address. When getting an address perhaps of a friend, a co-worker, or former classmate from way back in high school or college, it is much convenient to do a reverse directory rather than skimming through an address or a phone book, which appears to be obsolete.

- Doing background checks. The name and number connection is often enough for these on-line services to check into criminal records and such other public records. For a fact, reverse directory was proven useful in countries like Pakistan where too many activists thrive. The Pakistan government has trapped some of these activists through the use of this on-line system.

Various sites offer this type of service and have varied prices or charges, as well as the information retrieved. It is advisable to visit a to an well established reverse phone directory site that will surely provide you complete and accurate information that you need.

Is Your Phone System Killing Your Image?

I am always surprised when I call a company and get a scratchy voicemail message, a computer voice telling me that the wireless caller I am trying to reach is out of their calling area, or a fax tone screaming in my ear. When this happens, my first impression of that business, right or wrong, is that they are unprofessional, a fly by night operation, not established, and I am frankly not comfortable doing business with them.

The reason that it continually surprises me is because it just doesn’t need to happen. Here are 3 simple and inexpensive things that you can do to make sure that the image you are presenting when someone calls your company enhances your professional image, not takes away from it.

1. Marilyn Monroe or Olive Oyl- Some of us were blessed with wonderful phone voices. They are warm, have wonderful intonation and exude confidence while putting people at ease. Some of us were not so blessed. You know which one you are and should take that into consideration when creating outgoing messages that your callers will hear. If necessary pay the money to have someone professionally record your messages for you. It will pay for itself in the confidence you give to your callers.

2. Fax Tones Cause Irritation- In the year 2007 you should no longer have a fax machine that shares your phone line. If you have to say, “Okay give me a few minutes to turn my fax machine on before you send the fax,” and then give anyone else that calls during that time a piercing scream to the ear, it is time to upgrade. There are internet fax options as well as virtual phone numbers that allow you to still have the one number for phone and fax, but will also allow both kinds of calls to come in at the same time without having to flip any switches.

3. Cell Phone Voicemail Is A No-No- In today’s world, it is not unusual for people to work on the go. Most people you see nowadays have a cell phone held up to their ear, and it won’t be long before they are surgically implanted at birth. All the world’s an office. However, you don’t want your callers to think that you don’t have one. If you want to take your business calls on your cell phone, get a virtual number that will forward your calls to you there. That way if for some reason you can’t answer the call, or were abducted by aliens and are now out of your service area, your virtual number will handle the voicemail.

Image is so important in the business world. The first impression people will get of your company is what they hear when they call you. Are your callers left with a warm and fuzzy feeling of “mmmm” or an icky feeling of “eeeww”? Take the few extra steps to make sure your phone system is not killing your business.

Cellular Phone Covers Add Appeal To An Electronic Gadget

In everything we do these days there is some sense of fashion involved. In the past it only meant the style of your clothing however these days it touches just about every aspect of our lives (ie - what shoes to wear, the belts we have on, watches, jewelry, the way we comb our hair and even what kind of cell phone we carry. Rising to the occasion people in the cellphone industry have introduced covers or faceplates for cell phones, as they are widely known, to match almost anyone’s taste for fashion.

Cellular-Phone Cover Advantages

The younger generation, especially the female members, always take particular interest in how they dress up and they have very particular tastes when it comes to having all their accessories match, such as bags, scarves, shoes and also what not to wear. Since cellular phones are so pervasive and are a must-have accessory for just about everyone, its ability to ‘match’ to the style and clothes of the owner has also become a matter of particular interest.

Responding to this concern and demand from the consumer, the market produced and made available faceplates and matching cellular phone covers for practically every model of cell phone available. Because there is so much diversity available in the designs for accessories for cell phones these days you can not only match the color but also whatever particular style for that cellular-phone model.

The Benefits of A Cellular Phone Cover

In addition to having the perfect match, there are numerous other advantages that you can benefit from by using cell phone covers:

1. It’s plenty of fun — there is a windfall selection of funny designs for the faceplates to suit every mood. There are smiles, you can buy one that has your favorite cartoon characters, flowers, fruits and more as a faceplate, which will more than likely make you giggle on the inside every time you look at your cell phone.

2. Excellent party accessory — if you happen to have a formal party and you have an elegant jewelry type cellular phone cover it turns into a great accessory to help enhance your style.

3. Helps to give your old cell phone a facelift — when you scratch your mobile phone, or if it’s faded and old, you can immediately ‘rejuvenate’ it with a brand-new cellular phone cover. The thing is with these covers is that they’re inexpensive and you won’t have to pay a small fortune for them; so by spending a tiny fraction of the cost, you can virtually have a brand-new cell phone in a snap.

4. Great protection for your cell phone — these faceplates have many different materials that they are made out of. Some materials are exotic whose primary purpose is cosmetic enhancement. However, some of these faceplates are made of unbreakable fiber/plastic, which in addition to adding to your phones visual appeal, it will also protect it from shock and moisture and from falling.

You Only Have 20 Seconds To Save Your Cell Phone From Water Damage

Odds are good that if you have a cell phone that cost you a few hundred dollars to purchase, the last thing that you want to happen is to allow it to be submerged in water for any length of time. Unfortunately, accidents do happen and most cell phone warranties do not cover water damage at all. Cell phones have recently been equipped with stickers both on the inside of the battery compartment and on the circuit board that change color when they have come into contact with water. These stickers also have been known to trigger when exposed to high levels of humidity, resulting in a number of people who have never let their phones come into contact with water being denied a claim on their warranty.

If you do happen to drop your cell phone into the kitchen sink or the pool, there is something that you can do to save your phone. Unless you drop the phone off into deep water and you cannot retrieve it in under about 20 seconds, you should be able to revive it.

The first thing that you should do is get the phone out of the water as soon as possible and begin drying the outside. It takes water a few seconds to get inside your phone since the new casings are pretty tight.

After you get the phone out of the water, remove the battery pack and set it aside so that it can dry separately. Remove your SIM card, if your phone has one, as well. These cards can be just as valuable as or even more valuable than the phone itself depending on what contact information exists on the card. You can put it into a bowl of uncooked rice; this will help draw out any moisture that might have made it into your phone. Let it stay in the bowl at least overnight before you put the battery back into it.

Once you put the battery back into the phone, try and turn it back on. If it does not work, plug the phone into a wall outlet in your home. If this works, then you just need a new battery and you should be able to get one of those as long as you are willing to spend the money to get a new one from the manufacturer.

Cell Phone Solution For The Mobile

The cell phone is so versatile and even threatens to take the place of three of the innovations above since cell phones are evolving almost overnight adding new features and capabilities. It can easily replace the camera, television, video camera and the computer.

The earlier models of the cell phone were huge and reception was limited to a small area, they are now not only smaller and more powerful it is possible to change continents and receives calls on your cell phone through what is called roaming service.

It is standard for new cell phones to come with a camera. Other models allow users to surf the internet, receive and send email and pictures, text message which is a culture unto itself, and watch television or short movies.

The latest craze in the cell phone market is the iphone from the company Apple, which comes with a camera, and internet capability. What is unique to the iphone is its touch screen feature which allows users to make a call or to text message through a virtual key board, it also comes with visual voice mail and can access WI-FI services. Users can employ the iphone just like the other newer models for text message, internet surf and take pictures but not videos. The iphone can be purchased with a 4G memory or an 8G memory.

The spread and popularity of the cell phone has led to growing debate on the proper etiquette that should accompany the use of the cell phone. Of more concern is the use of cell phones while driving. Studies conducted by government and road safety advocates indicate that drivers on the phone are distracted enough and fail to notice other road users or traffic signs.

In a number countries its use while driving has been banned .Many people find it a great nuisance when others resort to keeping their phones on at theatres, restaurants, weddings or even funerals. Most schools ban the use of cell phones in class due to disruptions and their potential use to cheat at exams. There have been health fears from the use of cell phones but no real proof has been put forward to show that cell phone use could cause brain cancer.

There is no doubt that the cell phone will continue to influence our culture for a long time. More powerful models will keep rolling out; and improvement made to available features and services from service providers. It will be interesting what comes after the iphone. Prices will also fall and perhaps we will even see a full length movie shot entirely using a cell phone currently on short length movies have been made using cell phones. It already has its place in crime fighting and rescue operations. And it is a fashion statement.

Behind the Fine Print of Cell Phone Service Providers

There’s nothing worse than being locked into a cell phone service that you don’t like or finding out later that another carrier has options that better suit your lifestyle. Because cell phones are becoming more important in our everyday lives, it’s essential to carefully compare cell phone service providers to find the best one for your needs. We’ve all seen the commercials and glossy fliers for the most popular cell phone companies, but in this article, we digs below the marketing hype and compares the two largest carriers: Verizon and AT&T/Cingular.

Service Coverage

The greatest cell phone provider in the world is of no use if you are unable to get a signal. Before making a decision, it’s extremely important to find out which carriers have the strongest networks in your area.

Cell phone carriers use two different types of network technology, CMDA (Code Division Multiple Access) and GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications). Verizon uses a CMDA network, which offers more expansive coverage throughout the US, especially in rural areas, but provides limited access in outside of the US.

AT&T/Cingular uses the GSM network which provides extensive global coverage. While this may be great for world travelers, it’s not always the best choice for those in small towns. Since GSM inside the US mainly covers only metropolitan areas, the AT&T/Cingular network is available in fewer areas than Verizon.

It is difficult to truly assess a cell phone service providers’ effectiveness in your particular area since networks vary widely over even a few blocks. Try asking friends, coworkers, and particularly neighbors about their experience with different cell phones before making a final decision.

Phone Technology

Though Verizon covers more areas, many have criticized the lack of technology and visual appeal of their phones. Historically, they have lagged behind the other carriers in implementing new technologies like Bluetooth and their phones tend to have an outdated look. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case today. Over the past several years, Verizon has been quick to implement the latest technologies.

On the other hand, AT&T/Cingular has consistently remained on the cutting edge of phone technology. AT&T/Cingular was among the first mobile phone carriers to offer Motorola’s Razr and is currently the only service to offer the Apple iPhone.

Unique Features

Verizon’s marketing campaigns tout the fact that the company offers the most reliable network, and this appears to be accurate based on consumer studies. Verizon was the first to launch a high-speed 3G data network for fast internet connection and also launched the first mobile TV network.

One thing that consumers seem to like best about AT&T/Cingular is the plan’s rollover minutes. With rollover minutes, users can bank unused monthly minutes for up to a year. Analog roaming is another feature inherent to AT&T/Cingular plans that is unavailable with Verizon.

Choosing the Right Cell Phone Provider for Your Need

Since Verizon offers the widest network, it is probably the best choice for most US residents, particularly those in rural areas. If you live in the city or travel out of the country often, AT&T/Cingular (now partnered with AT&T) is probably a better option.

Online Phone Cards: Connecting People

The world seems to be a lot smaller than what it was before. This is so because people get to travel to the different parts of the sphere in a few minutes or a few hours or a few days with the help of the various means of transportation that technology has brought into the century. Now we have trucks, buses, boats, planes and helicopters to get us to places. The people from the east can easily take a trip to the west side of the globe sitting comfortably inside an air-conditioned plane and even taking a nap during the flight.

With this development, people not only travel to tour and go visit but a good number of individuals take the trip and decide to migrate and to reside in a whole new different world of an entirely different culture. And although the grass may be greener on that pasture, still you get the pangs of missing the loved ones and friends that you have left behind. But then again the wonders of technology have provided a solution to this dilemma-phones! Through phones we get to talk to people who are miles away like they were just within arms reach. The world is definitely getting smaller.

You can have a telephone installed at the comforts of your home or you can choose a mobile phone that you can bring with you anywhere you may be. As convenient as it may, having phones can be quite expensive. You would think the privilege of being able to talk to someone far away should be of a high price, think again. Innovation and smart minds have made this luxury inexpensive with the help of phone cards. With phone cards you get to make long distance calls whether they may be domestic or international yet get to be in control of your call expenses.

This is because phone cards are generally prepaid. Paying in advance means you can say goodbye to monthly phone bills and detailed statements. Each specific phone card has an equivalent call duration minutes based on the price that you pay. The available call minutes are reduced each time you make a call and on how long these calls are. As soon as your credit runs out, you are no longer to make anymore calls. This kind of control or regulation could be the very solution of people who tend to spend hours and hours chattering on the phone not knowing their limits and waking up frustrated the next day to find a full blown telephone bill. Such limit could make people conscious of their calls and their expenses.

To add convenience, these phone cards are now available online. So with just a click, you can get the full service of a card as soon as possible. A good number of merchants are offering domestic and international online phone cards to the various countries of the world. Each comes with a distinctive rate and boundaries with some even offering added features for your greater satisfaction.

Choosing A Newer, Better Cell Phone

It seems like every year it’s time to replace that old cell phone with something new and with each new cycle the range of phones available on the market keeps getting bigger and bigger. Today, options range from basic phones that come free with your cellular package to souped-up business models that can cost several hundred dollars. If you’re looking for a new cell phone, keep reading for great tips on how to choose the right cell phone for you.

First, let’s talk about the absolute hardware basics of the phone and how it relates to how you’re going to use it;

Battery Life: If you’re often on the go, away from home for long stretches, and a frequent phone user then you’re going to want a phone that has great battery life. The lithium ion batteries have an exceptionally long life and don’t suffer from battery memory problems, but they can be very pricey.

Transmission Capability: If you’re a big traveler, whether for business or pleasure, then you’re going to want to make sure that you get a phone with multi-band capabilities so it will work everywhere from Europe to South America to Asia. You also don’t want to be relying on a purely digital phone if you plan on making trips out of urban areas.

Weight/Size: For some, the phone size can be a major issue. If you’re not going to be carrying a purse or a bag, it’s important to find a phone that’s light enough and small enough to fit in your pocket (shirt or pant), but still large enough for easy functionality.

Essentially, the three absolute basic characteristics are battery power, signal, and size. Keep reading to learn how functionality and extra options can also help make or break your cellular phone decision.

Above and beyond the basics of battery power, signal type, and weight are the extra options and functions that really make a phone. Unfortunately, they also make your phone purchasing decision that much harder. From cameras to email, how many extras you want on your phone will depend on how you plan on using it.

If you’re looking for a fun accessory that also plays MP3s and takes great pictures of you and your friends, consider going all out with an MP3-Camera-phone. Meanwhile, if you’re an outdoors-adventurer and the kind of person that gives their gear a beating, you may want to buy a well-built but very basic phone that focuses on functionality and sturdiness.

If you want a business model that will allow you to quickly access the Internet, browse through emails, and easily organize important contacts, then consider going with a phone/organizer hybrid. These phones run simple software that not only gets you online and connected, but also enables you to pull up important office documents, and sync with your business computer.

Finally, remember that how you plan on actually using your phone should be your most important factor when it comes to making a decision. Don’t be seduced by extra features that will go unused and never sacrifice functionality.

Tips For Picking the Best Cellular Phone Company

In today’s society there is very high growth in cell phone usage; old and young alike are owning cell phones. In the majority of high schools in America almost every teen has their own cell phone that has the capabilities of taking pictures, accessing the internet, downloading their favorite songs, as well as making movies.

Readily available access to electronic technology has made cellphones less expensive and popular. The larger cellular phone companies such as Cingular, Sprint, and T-Mobile among others have dominated the consumer market but there are newer companies competing for their share of the still expanding niche including Verizon and Virgin Mobile.

Cellular phone companies are discovering that in order to stay ahead of the game they must continually offer additional technologically advanced phones, more convenient plans as well as options to keep their customers on top of the technological hill.

Some of these phone companies such as these have discovered that the phones that they supply are more than just a method of communication but are fads. Some individuals pick their phones for how they look just as they would if they were to choose some type of fashion accessory.

What to Search For

When picking a cellular phone company it is critical to decide on just what you need. Do you need a phone just to handle emergencies? Is your phone going to assist your family and helping keep up with where everyone is going to after work and after school? Does your work or business place need you to use your cell phone on the job? Do you really require any camera on your phone or need the ability to go online with your phone?

Simple questions such as these will assist in helping you make a decision firstly for what type of phone you require and help you to start checking out the huge amounts of phones that are available. The next step to consider is the cell phone plan.

Would you prefer to spend money on a monthly plan for a fixed amount of minutes? Or is it your intention to just use your phone in a minimal way for emergencies only for things that may just come up? If that is a situation you probably do not require a plan from a cellular phone company but just a basic phone and you spend money for the minutes you require.

There are a variety of cellular phone companies on the market depending on where you’re located. It would be easy to simply have a cellular phone to your regular home phone bill if you’re phone company offers cellular service.

Check with your friends about who their cell phone provider is and find out if they have had any difficulties with them. It is a good idea to get all the information and research in prior to taking on the expense of contracting with a cellular phone provider.

Prepaid Phone Cards - Four Critical Fees To Watch Out For!

Prepaid phone cards have been a boon for many consumers, particularly people with family and friends living long distance and overseas. Amazing low rates and the opportunity to spend a long time on the phone with a loved one is something we only dreamed about a few short years ago.

Now, for very little outlay, a prepaid phone card has made the world a much smaller place. But are there dangers to avoid. You “betcha” so let’s take a look at those.

Watch The Fees

Okay, the advantages are great especially in the cost saving department. But what’s the point in shopping around for the lowest and least expensive prepaid phone card when you haven’t taken the time to explore any hidden charges which may be lurking in the background.

The four main hidden fees to watch out for are maintenance fees, connection fees, minute rounding and surcharges from public phones. Believe me, these can chomp away at your talk time in a hurry and leave you wondering where the heck did my value go! It’s easy to get caught up in the advertising hype surrounding low rates. First thing you should always do is go straight to the fine print and see how much a “you beaut” deal is really going to cost in hidden charges.

On going maintenance fees should be avoided. Connection fees in some instances may not be avoidable while be careful when purchasing a prepaid calling card and using it from a public phone. The surcharge could be excessive. The biggest bug bear with many consumers is the multiple minute rounding. Whether it’s three or five minutes or whatever, it really can destroy your talk time.

For example, making a 7 minute and 20 second call and then getting it rounded off to 10 minutes. That is pretty rude in a lot of people’s books so always ask about this. It should be avoided. If the cost per minute is great and there are no other hidden factors, then maybe you could tolerate a call rounded off to the next minute but no more than that!

A few other pitfalls to look out for include poor or non existant customer service, expiry deadlines where you may not even use your card and find out there was a short term deadline which has been reached. The result? You lose your talk time. Long distance confusion… low rates within a state but different rates apply outside it.

Read The Fine Print!

One of the things recommended is heading straight for the fine print section before deciding whether a deal is going to be a good one. No fees should mean no fees but for your own peace of mind, make sure of it.

Prepaid phone cards have come under a lot of scrutiny in recent years but despite the unscrupulous operators who have come and gone, the phone card has been a tremendous ally to people wanting to stay in touch with long distance family and friends.

GPS Cell Phone

The Global Positioning System (GPS) was funded, developed and controlled by the US Department of Defense. Since the late seventies, GPS has become an important aid to navigation around the world. Initially designed for the US military, GPS became publicly available years later and it is now considered an important feature in lots of consumer products.

How does GPS work? Well, basically there are three elements that make everything work: satellites, earth monitoring stations and receivers (ex: cell phone, gps receiver). GPS provides specially coded satellite signals that can be processed in a GPS receiver, enabling the receiver to compute position, velocity and time.

Today, most cell phones are not limited to carry on just a conversation. Features like mp3 player, digital camera and video camera have all become standards in the latest cell phone models. It is expected that the GPS feature will soon be added to this list, and it will offer the capability of tracking any cell phone user.

The capability of tracking a cell phone user becomes important in emergency situations, like a car accident, thru the use of 911 emergency phone call, where every minute may be a matter of life or death. In situation like this, the GPS system may pinpoint the exact location of the road accident, enabling emergency services to be quickly dispatched.

It is important to mention that so far most GPS system in cell phone is restricted to tracking information only. However, one can have navigational capability thru the use of full screen cell phone/PDA combos with map displays and other cellular phone accessories, and third party paid services. If one does not want to sign up for a monthly paid subscription service, he can make use of one-time-paid-only software programs that will enable some of the navigational capabilities.

Although there are many benefits in using GPS cell phones, there are some people who are concerned about the violation of personal privacy. Since the US Congress has not authorized location tracking without actual evidence of wrongdoing, there have been court hearings which have not approved the requests of government agencies in obtaining the cell phone GPS tracking information for suspects or ordinary citizens.

This privacy matter has made some progress towards the cell phone user`s rights, since there are some laws that have been passed which guarantees that GPS cell phone users will have some protection from the release of the tracking information, with the exception of 911 emergency cell phone calls. It is expected that these laws will guarantee that the benefits of GPS in cell phones will be enjoyed by everyone without infringing anybody`s privacy.

Sometimes when there is a technological innovation, there are also some concerns about privacy or some rights infringements. But no matter how much of a concern this is, it seems that a compromise will always have to be reached, so that new technologies will take their places in everyone`s lives. After all, we all live in a globalized consumer world. By the way, have you already got your GPS cell phone?

Your Cell Phone, Water, and a Sticker

Water is a part of our everyday lives, but most of us who own electronic devices can readily admit that it is not only the source of live, but also the source of some pretty pricey problems. It is every cell phone or blackberry owner’s nightmare: dropping that $400 device into the bathtub or into the pool.

What do you do with it after you drop it into water? How late is too late to save it? And if it can be saved, how do you do it? Well, if you have a newer cell phone, odds are that if you drop it in water, you will not be able to get the phone’s warranty to cover the water damage.

It is not covered under most cell phone warranties and this is one reason that you should be especially careful if you plan on getting your phone anywhere near water. The new phones have been equipped with small white stickers both inside the battery compartments and on the circuit board deeper inside the phone.

When the phone gets wet (or when it is simply exposed to humidity that is just too high), the sticker changes color due to a powdered dye underneath it. When you take your phone to the manufacturer to try and file a claim, they tell you that they cannot give you any compensation because the phone has been water damaged, even if you have not actually dropped the phone in water. If humidity is too high, the sticker trips and you are out of luck.

What can you do to try and remedy this problem? If you live in an area that is subject to pretty high humidity, you can take a piece of satin finished scotch tape and place a piece over the sticker on the battery compartment. The problem is getting to the other sticker that is usually on the phone’s circuit board. If you can manage that, then hats off to you. If your phone stops working and you need to file a claim, remove the tape.

If you do happen to drop your phone in the water, get it out in under 20 seconds and remove the power supply completely. Submerge it in a bowl of uncooked rice at least overnight and do NOT try to power on the phone until you are completely certain it is dry. If you put the battery back in and it works, congratulations. If not, try using it with your AC adapter. If this works, all you need is a new phone battery.

A Stun Gun or A Cell Phone? -Enhanced Personal Protection for Pocket or Purse

A new, high technology weapon has arrived in the battle against personal crime. The next time an attacker plans on robbing or attacking someone and they may get a surprise from the victim’s cell phone.

A cell phone stun gun is now available. With a whopping 800,000 volts of stopping power, it can stop an attacker dead in his tracks. Just three to five seconds of contact with a stun gun will put an attacker on the ground in contorted agony. Stun guns use high voltage and low amperage to temporarily disable an attacker for several minutes.

Stun guns were originally designed for an individual’s personal safety. Combine that with the looks of a cell phone and you have a non lethal self defense weapon that has the added element of surprise that could save your life. Surprise is often your best weapon against an attack. Your goal should be to surprise your attacker long enough for you to get away and flee.

Having this type of unit is a great way to hide the fact it’s a weapon. It blends in, and can be taken into public areas without arousing alarm. You can take this unit in your pocket or purse into restaurants, hotels, theaters and other areas that you would not be allowed to enter with a conventional stun gun. However, if you are considering purchasing a stun gun, every state has laws governing their use.

States that restrict stun guns includes Illinois, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin. Cities that restrict stun guns include Annapolis, MD, Baltimore, MD, Baltimore County, MD, Chicago, IL, District of Columbia and Philadelphia. Make sure you follow all local and state laws regarding carrying stun weapons.

These units are an electroshock weapon in the shape of a cell phone that can be used effectively for self-defense immobilizing an assailant for up to 5 minutes or more. You can use cell phone stun gun as a non lethal self-defense weapon under any threatening situation. Most of them come with a 130 db alarm system for added protection.

These units also feature 100 db alarm and a super high intensity flashlight which alone could temporarily blind an assailant. The stun gun packs a whopping 800,000 volts enough to dissuade the most aggressive of assailants. A wrist strap with a stop pin sets off the 100 db alarm if the unit is pulled out of your hands. The cell phone stun gun emits 800,000 volts and temporarily immobilizes an assailant without doing any long term damage. The net weight of this unique stun gun is a few ounces without battery.

They are great for car or purse. They are effective because they are easy to operate, inexpensive, powerful and easy to carry. Remember, stun weapons like this give you a tactical advantage. Because it looks like a harmless cell phone, it will be easy to surprise an attacker. Remember, the purpose of this stun gun, and all other non-lethal self defense products, is to give you time to escape. Use the product, and then run for safety. Don’t stand around and watch the victim, on whom you just turned tables, suffer.

Make sure your stun gun has working, fresh batteries. You are going to depend on it for your safety, possibly your life. Don’t take chances with a dead battery. Replace the battery every year even if you never discharge the unit. Also, it is advisable to discharge your stun gun periodically to insure it works.

Using VOIP Instead Of Cell Phone

VOIP offers so many benefits, primary of which is tremendous savings in the monthly phone bills. But the question that many ask is will people end up using VOIP instead of cell phones? While nobody can deny that cell phones are indeed extremely useful as is proved by the near total market penetration of the cell phone industry, yet VOIP mobiles can indeed cut telephone costs immensely.

Many people get portability with their VOIP service as they may fix their adaptor in anyplace that has a broadband access and make calls. But as the service is dependant on the reliability and the quality of the internet connection, it is rather a drawback.

Many wonder if there is a viable market for wi-fi VOIP phones. Indeed there will be many who would welcome this on account of the obvious reason, saving nearly 50% on the monthly phone bill. Many cell phone companies have addressed the situation by producing dual-mode phones that can be used as regular cell phones which can seamlessly convert into a Wi-Fi VOIP phone too.

Wi-Fi VOIP is enabled within wireless networks that are activated by what is known as a “hotspot”. A hotspot is an area where you find an access point to establish the connection to the network. Mobile users can pick up signals from hotspot to hotspot as they travel within the various network access points.

Some firms have gone ahead and produced completely VOIP mobile phones. This must be welcome news to customers as mobile phone call minutes will definitely become more pocket friendly with mobile VOIP services. This is because they use free radio spectrum and internet instead of investing in large expensive towers, thus they cost less. The reason why many wireless carriers are afraid to venture into wi-fi VOIP is that their landline service will suffer.

VOIP mobile phones are relatively inexpensive to use as other products of VOIP technology. It is technically cheaper to submit audio as data packets over the Internet with less bandwidth. The compression technology is improving so the voice quality is becoming better with less noises or intrusions.

About 200 US cities have made it clear that they will introduce many wi-fi Hotspots free of charge. There are some concerns that wi-fi may replace broadband and traditional phone line services. Well, when that day comes, the customers will benefit getting not only extremely affordable rates but quality service too, that is why they may opt for using VOIP instead of cell phones.
